...the line in Disney's Beauty and the Beast where Gaston refers to Belle with the comment, "That Belle, always has her nose stuck in a book"? Boy am I feeling that. I have been back in school for a grand total of 7 weeks and have written 7 essay papers, taken 4 tests, given 3 speeches, turned in 3 homework assignments, and taken 1 quizz. Yes, my stack of books has become an extension of my person.
I noticed a couple weeks ago that C had stopped sitting in my lap or demanding that I hold her when I am working at the computer. When I asked her why she said, "You're always studying, I did not want to interrupt." Interject sad face here and yes sad puppy dog eyes.
That situation has now been handled. I scooped her up and squeezed her tight. "Mommy, always has time for hugs." To which she smiled (largely, hugely, and giggly)
"Mom, I missed you!"
"Mmmm(that's the big squeeze) I missed you too."
So, this morning when C crawls sleepily out of bed and drags her way to the kitchen to find me, she will not worry that Mommy is too busy. No, she will move my hand fom the computer, where I will be working on yet another essay. She will plop her bony self down in my lap. She will stay there until she is alert enough to ask,"Mom, can I push some of the buttons for you?"
Of course, I will say, "Yes." Because spending time with C is so much more important than "those ole books" anyway.
