Do Every Little Thing That You Do…

Wow, I have to be honest. There are days (not unlike today) when I feel worthless.

Just being honest here!

My mind begins to play those accusation games with me.  You need a new hairstyle. All you’ve done with your adult life is raise kids and clean house.  You really aren’t very good at that. Your talent is mediocre at best.

On and on the accusations fly. Then something in me realizes. This is what I was made for.  That pile of laundry…is my job. Those three home cooked meals a day…That’s my job.

Those kids I try to teach well and train up right…those are my mission fields.

I love the words to the song by Steven Curtis Chapman.

“You’re picking up toys on the living room floor
for the 15th time today
Matching up socks and sweeping up lost
Cheerios that got away
You put a baby on your hip and color on your lips
and head out the door
And while I may not know you I bet I know you
Wonder sometimes does it matter at all
Well let me remind you it all matters just as long as you

Do everything you do to the glory of the One who made you
Cause He made you to do
Every little thing that you do to bring a smile to His face
And tell the story of grace
With every move that you make
And every little thing you do”

I may not be a CEO, and I may not get to wear or even own a closet  full of fancy clothes. I may not get to help support the family financially but this is who I am. I am who I am because, this is who God made me to be.  Not worthless but valuable. I am even able to bring glory to the God that created the universe…you know what…that’s pretty cool!

  3. As a person who is licensed to sell life insurance I could build up your self worth by telling you how much money it would take to replace you....but as a child of God I will tell you that the work you are doing is the work you have been called to and there is nothing more important than caring for your home and family. The enemy seeks to destroy our families but with dedication such as yours his job is much harder!!

  6. Thanks for this! I will tell you that when I read the post title I immediately started humming the song lol. The first time I heard the song I was like "WOW, so simple but so profound. Every little thing."

  7. I was sitting in the orthodontist office today waiting for two of my kids while my youngest was getting on lap, getting down, on my lap, down again and so on. And I thought to myself I've had kids crawling on me for almost 19 years now. But I would be lost so without them.

  10. Thanks for the encouraging words. At times I feel like a nobody since I am a stay at home mom. One woman told me bless my heart when I told her I was a stay at home mom. She is a divorced mom, and I have never seen the dad at any school event. I was thinking her heart is the one that needs a blessing. :)
