Something To Be Proud Of

I know many parents have enjoyed the back to school quiet that has been recently afforded them. At times I hear them speaking of a day of peace and quiet and I wonder what that would be like - no children for a few hours every week day. Then the big yellow cheese wagon screeches around our corner and I see my children watch it pass. Then we take out our books and begin our day.

Yes, craziness sometime ensues. "Mom, I don't get this." "Do I have to write a whole page or can I just do a few sentences?" "How do you spell mitochondria?" "I need to take my spelling test." "Mom, tell D to scoot over." Very often all of this happens at once. Ahhh, it makes my head spin!

But, I am happy to say, those moments are short lived as I remember and reflect on the good times. I was there when each of my children first rolled over. I have pictures forever stored away in my mind of each of their first steps. I heard their little voices when they read out loud for the first time. I taught them how to do that. I taught them to ride their bikes. I am blessed daily to hear things like, "Mom did you know that ..." or "Wow, Mom this is neat!"

Yes, there a times when I feel like I would love to have the children dress and load up on the big yellow bus so I could get a few hours of quiet and a clean living room. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have two incomes. I could get my nails done, have the carpet replaced with hard wood, have a bigger house or buy things for my family that we just do not get with me staying home. Then there are quiet moments like this one, moments when I can count my blessings. This year we have a 10th grader, a 9th grader, a 5th grader and a 1st grader and do you know what? I am glad they are home. I would even go so far as to say,"I am proud to be a homemaker, a wife and a homeschooling mom."

This is a nice post. I've done (am doing) both-- my younger daughter is homeschooled now, but my older daughter went to public school all her life, younger daughter most. I do wish that I had peace and quiet again (my husband also works at home), but at this time in our life, homeschooling is the right way to go, and I like teaching her.

I think homeschool moms should steal the motto of the Peace Corp: "The Toughest Job You'll Ever Love". Not easy. But so rewarding!

That is awesome :) As someone who was homeschooled all the way through - I know what a wonderful gift your giving your children!

You will have wonderful memories forever as a homeschooling mom. An added bonus is that as you participate in their learning experiences, you're continuing your own education. Can't get better than that!

I have thought many times of the income we could have had if I had stayed working---but Charlie has said many times---with the job he has, this has been the best thing the Lord has led us to. The memories and relationship I have with the girls is priceless---and God provides all we need--the rest is just fluff! :-) I just have one left at home now....it's a little strange, but good. And the other 2 are in Christian colleges and have both told me---Mom, we're so glad you made us work so hard! :-) It's all worth it! Keep up the great work! Jan

That's so awesome! And I imagine your kids will be grateful for the love and time and care you have shared with them if they are not already.
PS I have learned two interesting facts by reading the comments here: that Athena is homeschooling and that Ruthie was homeschooled.
PSS You have my admiration!
